Millburn Elementary School
Physical Education
Dear Parent/ Guardian,
Our names are Erin Michel and Geneen Hoetzer. We are the physical education teachers for grades K-5 at Millburn Elementary School.
All Students will participate in physical education class twice a week. This year all students in Kindergarten - 5th grades will receive 45 minutes of instruction per class period.
Our program is designed to focus on three major areas that contribute to one’s physical health and well-being: movement concepts, skill themes and wellness concepts. Lessons are designed for the wide range of skill and fitness levels that characterize children of these ages.
If you haven’t already done so, please obtain a “stay at school” pair of athletic (gym) shoes with non-marking soles for your child’s comfort and safety. Please make sure your child’s shoes fit securely and will stay on his/her feet during physical activity. Socks should always be worn with gym shoes. Girls should wear shorts, pants or skorts on physical education days. We also suggest, since physical education days will change from week to week, that girls keep a pair of shorts or leggings in their locker. All jewelry needs to stay in the classroom, except very small earrings which lay next to the ear.
If a health problem occurs, please send a note making us aware of any modifications that we will need to consider for your child. If your child has a doctor’s note excusing him/ her from P.E., please send a copy of the note.
We’re looking forward to a fun and productive year! Please contact us with any questions: emichel@millburn24.net or ghoetzer@millburn24.net, or by phone at 847-356-8331.
Thank you,
Mrs. Michel and Ms. Hoetzer
