Introduction

Hello

My name is Mr. Lacey. I am the new visual arts teacher at Millburn Middle School. After many amazing years of serving the students at Millburn, Ms. Jane Reu retired at the end of the 18/19 school year. I am honored to receive the opportunity to fill her position. I am quite aware that I have big shoes to fill. I am eager for the new challenge. While I am a new staff member at the middle school, I am not new to District 24. I was the art teacher at Millburn Elementary for the past several years. The new art teacher at the elementary is Mrs. Michelle Hauser.

I am looking forward to the start of the new school year. We had an amazing year, last year. I am truly impressed by the level of talent that the students possess here at Millburn. I have been working hard to plan some wonderful new learning opportunities for this year’s art classes. I can’t wait to share some of the new learning opportunities I have planned for the students this year.

 Supplies

Grades 6-8 will be required to attend art class with a sketchbook, iPad and pencils. As a part of my curriculum, I expose students to a variety of materials and mediums. Some of the art mediums can be quite messy such as paint, clay, plaster, adhesives and pastels. Occasionally students might accidentally get some on their school clothes. As a disclaimer, I recommend that students wear an old t-shirt or smock to art class on the days that we are working with such materials.

Curriculum

Millburn's visual arts program offers the opportunity for young artists to explore the visual arts through the production of a wide variety of artwork. Students will continue to progress in the visual arts by building on and utilizing existing skills and knowledge. Throughout the sequence of courses, students will be exposed to new production methods, media, genres, artists and concepts. Courses will also emphasize the development and creative processes used by artists and designers. Students will also be challenged and encouraged to develop creative problem solving abilities to express ideas through the use of imagery.

Communication

Student's assignments, project deadlines, supplemental resources and grades will be provided via Schoology. Students and parents are free to reach out to me with any questions at alacey@millburn24.net
